Destructured hours: Hautlence, ten years of amazing watchmaking

In 2014, Hautlence – an anagram for Neuchâtel – celebrates its 10th anniversary. Now a master of non-traditional time display watches, the brand likes toeing conventional lines.

Hautlence was founded by Guillaume Tétu and Renaud de Retz in 2004. Throughout the years, it has made a name for itself in Haute Horlogerie. Strictly speaking, it is not a brand that produces classical watches. Its watchmaking workshop ventures beyond usual time display to offer something new to aesthetes who are looking for a different experience: a watch which is not simply a functional object driven by an incredible mechanism, but pure kinetic art. If Swiss artist Tinguely managed to capture movement in his sculptures, Tétu found a way to give a new dimension to time display. His more sensitive and graphic dimension has won the hearts of many collectors who see an expression of timeless art in his creations.

Today, the maison’s association with former soccer player Eric Cantona, an artist and free thinker, seems to have been fruitful. Indeed, they share the same wish to create something unconventional, to follow their own ideas and to produce a different perception and a new way of thinking. Like its ambassador, the brand’s collections are both offset and reasonable whilst evoking a panoply of strong sensations.
